プロフィール

麻布大学獣医学部環境畜産学科を卒業後、日本大学大学院農学研究科を修了し、家畜飼料メーカーを勤務後、1991年から札幌医科大学医学部の教員となる。1996年に博士(医学)の学位を取得。札幌医科大学在籍中、2000-02年、カルフォルニア大学バークレイ校 Molecular & Cell Biology・免疫分野(Nilabh Shastri 研究室)に留学。その後2008年3月まで在籍し、2008年から現職の麻布大学獣医学部、教授に就任。

主たる研究歴

札幌医科大学では、海洋生物(ウニ)由来の腫瘍の血管新生阻害効果を持つ抗腫瘍物質SQMGを発見。SQMGには放射線増感作用があることも発見し、現在、動物の放射線治療併用剤としての実用化を目指している。また、札幌医大病理学第一講座にて、癌の免疫療法の基盤研究を行い、ヒト胃癌抗原遺伝子の同定など癌抗原分子の解析を行ってきた。さらにはC型肝炎ウイルスの複製に関与している新規なRNA helicase,YTHDC2を同定した。カルフォルニア大学バークレイ校・Nilabh Shastri 研究室でのテーマは慢性拒絶反応に原因となるマイナー組織適合抗原を解析し、MHC class IIに提示される常染色体由来のマイナー組織適合抗原を世界で初めて同定した。

現在の研究テーマとしては:1つは癌細胞の転移についてである。ヒトC型肝炎ウイルスの複製に関与していたRNAヘリカーゼであるYTHDC2が、ヒト大腸癌、乳癌細胞の転移に関与していることを発見し、その分子機構について解析をしている。2つ目として、放射線治療における治療抵抗性の起因となる活性酸素種(ROS)ストレス耐性の発生機序の分子機構について解析をしている。

研究の基本的な姿勢として、未知なる物質や遺伝子の新規機能の発見を通じて、生物現象、疾病の原因を探求することである。
