プロフィール

My aim is to help students at Azabu University to find a goal for their English studies and provide practical study and advice on how to achieve that goal. Students will generally be working towards different outcomes for their English studies: some may hope to achieve a superior TOEIC score, others may want to improve their oral communication skills for a study abroad trip or homestay, whilst other may want to become able to communicate in English about the subjects they are studying in their degree program. All of these various goals are valid and my job is to help students focus on the steps needed to reach their goal and provide the opportunity for them to study materials relevant to their goal with me on a regular basis.

My 3rd Year Zemi class is based around a study tour abroad. Every year we visit another country to find out about environmental problems firsthand, and investigate the extent of the problems and the local approaches and solutions being employed. In recent years we have regularly visited Indonesia to see for ourselves the problems facing coral reefs in a famous marine national park. Each time we make a group with an equal number of Indonesia students and use English to communicate as we conduct our studies. In addition, a large part of the program is cross-cultural exchange and communication, focusing on both environmental issues and cultural and lifestyle topics. It is always gratifying to observe the firm international friendships that are forged during these tours, and with the communication opportunities offered by email, online chat, mobile telephones and so on, these are friendships the last once the students return to Japan.
