オハイオ州立大学(OSU)学生20名の本学での海外研修

5月23～24日にオハイオ州立大学（OSU）の海外学習プログラム（Study Abroad Program）の学生20名が、OSU教授の茨木 希先生に引率され麻布大学を来訪し、日本の公衆衛生について学びました。本学の学生たちにとっても、アメリカ人学生といっしょに勉強する貴重な機会になりました。

第1日目の午前、OSUの学生は、本学 獣医学部 獣医学科 講師 石原 章和 先生による馬の病気に関する講義、寄生虫学研究室 客員研究員の二瓶 直子 先生と同研究室 黄 鴻堅 教授による、日本住血吸虫病の撲滅と制御、および津波後の衛生昆虫調査と制御についての講義を受講しました。その後キャンパス内にあるいのちの博物館を見学し、展示品の解説は高槻 成紀 上席学芸員が行いました。

第1日目の午後は、本学 獣医学科 准教授 加藤 行男 先生と講師の岡谷 友三 先生による日本の食品衛生に関する実習に参加しました。多くの学生が初めて細菌培養を体験しました。また、ホタテの解剖を行い、病原ウイルスの濃度が高い部位などについて勉強しました。

第2日目の午前は、OSUの学生と本学の生命・環境科学部の学生が一緒になって公衆衛生学をテーマに、ミニシンポジウムを行いました。生命・環境科学部の学生達は、環境科学科 講師 ジョナサン・リンチ先生（国際コミュニケーション研究室）の指導のもとにアメリカ人学生とのディスカッションの準備を進めてきました。

第2日目の午後は、生命・環境科学部 環境科学科 准教授の川上 泰 先生、獣医学部 獣医学科 准教授の平 健介 先生および黄 教授による寄生虫学実習で、オハイオの学生たちは海産魚から生きているアニサキス線虫や条虫を見つけて感銘を受け、また、アニサキス症の予防について学びました。

Azabu University hosted the Ohio State University Study Abroad Program

A total of 20 Ohio State University (OSU) study abroad program students, led by Prof. Motomu Ibaraki, visited Azabu University (AU) for two whole day learning program on public health. It was a great opportunity for AU students to interact and discuss topics of mutual interest with American students.

On Day 1, in the morning on May 23, the OSU students were given lectures on the diseases of horses, schistosomiasis in Japan, and Control of insect pest in the aftermath of tsunami by Drs. Ishihara, Ooi and Nihei from the School of Veterinary Medicine, AU, respectively. After the lunch break, Dr. Ooi took the OSU students to visit the Life Museum in the campus, where Dr. Takatsuki gave a briefing on the museum exhibits.

In the afternoon of Day 1, the students were given a practical on bacteriology class by Drs. Kato and Okatani of the School of Veterinary Medicine. The OSU students learned to identify the various bacteria species based on their colony characteristic. They also learned the anatomy of scallops and identified the organs where the highest concentration of the food poisoning virus are located.

On day 2 in the morming, a mini-symposium on the public health and hygiene was carried out by OSU students and AU students. This symposium highlighted the difference and similarity in life-style and other social issues between USA and Japan. The symposium was coordinated by Dr. Jonathan Lynch of the School of Life and Environment Science.

In the afternoon on the second day, OSU students participated in a veterinary parasitology practical. The practical class was conducted by Dr. Kawakami of the School of Life and Environment Science and Drs. Taira and Ooi of the School of Veterinary Medicine. The practical involved the detection of anisakids and cestode larvae in fishes. The students were excited and fascinated by the vigorous movement of the worms.
